Methodology Video

Process of Making the Video

Heyo! So, after doing all the research and making our own fake news brand, all that was left to do was to make the actual video. We started pretty early for the video, as we wanted to finish it in one day. We went into our morning lab at 9 am on a Monday morning so we were pretty tired but we had to get it all done. The video and voice overs was our only objectives left. We had most of the materials we needed and all we needed to do was the tedious part, video editing. We wanted to make this video look semi-professional so we went with a formal video format. Our objective for the start of the video was an opening that explained the objective of the video:

At the start of the video, we wanted to get the boring stuff out of the way and showed footage of other fake news sites from back in the day compared to the sites nowadays and it was all to be voiced over by Alex:

Our next goal for the video was to state our goals with our research of fake news:

And we then added footage of Eddie designing 'The Vibe Network' logo, the design process of the website and social media pages and it was all voiced over by Eddie himself:

Then, after Eddie's part is all done we edited my part onto the full video where there is footage of me designing the articles and posting them onto the website and social media sites where I also voiced over that part:

For the result, we showed screenshots of the publicity we got, and some of the comments we also gained from different people on social media:

And after a long day of editing and recording voice overs, we were finally done with the full video. We spent 10 hours in college doing all this and I have to say, the end result was very satisfying.

That's all from me!

Methodology Process

Process of Researching Digital Journalism

Hola! So for this project, I decided to work with Alex and a person from a previous project I worked with, Eddie. We decided to do digital journalism as it was the more fun option in my opinion and we decided to solely research fake news. We spent the first week brainstorming what we wanted to do for the research such as what we wanted to accomplish, and how successful it may be. We decided that we would run our own fake news platform, so we made a fake news website, Facebook and Twitter.

Here's our fake website:

Here's our Twitter:

Here's our Facebook:

We named our fake news platform 'The Vibe Network' and Eddie was the one who designed our logo for the social media sites:
Once we set up our social media sites, we decided to briefly research how fake news first started and figured out what footage we wanted to use to explain how it started and how its changed over the years in our video. The next step was to create some fake articles for our social media sites so we can try and get some traction. Our goal was to make stories that once you look at them, they grab your attention from the headline and that would you make you question the legitimacy of the story, and we wanted to make the articles short so that it isn't too time consuming of a read and when you have read it, you immediately realize that the article is fake:

Once we have designed the articles and posted them on our website, we wanted to spread these pieces of fake news on our social media sites to see more traction and gain more clicks. Once we posted them, we waited a good few days to see how many people had found our articles and to see how many views and likes we have gotten.

That's all for now, till the next post!

GIF Presentation

Hey I'm back.

So the presentation is done and out of the way. Overall, in my opinion the presentation went well although there were quite a few groups doing a presentation on GIFs. Not to brag but I'd say our presentation was the better one out of the rest.

Since it was the first presentation I have done in a long time, it was a bit nerve racking as our turn approached. But once got up in front of the class it wasn't too bad. In the presentation, I presented the brief history of the GIF and it's uses in social media and overall, I think I did pretty well. Eddie talked about his process of making the 3 GIFs in photoshop and talked about his experience:

Since Denis was our photographer for our group, he talked about the process of taking the pictures and videos for the GIFs:

In conclusion, I think the work we put in and the overall presentation was really well done and if we were to grade ourselves, we agreed the the project was satisfactory.

That's it for this project, until the next one!

Memes Process

Hola. For the culture project, I chose to do the meme but since I had started it late, I couldn't find a group so I had to work on it alone. Also, since I was working alone, I had put in a lot of time into the project due to not being able to spread the workload among other members. The same way I did from the last project, I wanted to keep the history brief and talk more about the formats of memes that exist and some of my favorite ones as well as some memes I personally made:

For the process of making my own meme, since I had no experience with photoshop, it was interesting to discover and exploring all the different tools in it and it really helped me learn photoshop, even if it is only the basics:

For the research aspect of the project, it was tedious as there was a lot of information to work with and I had to compress it all to make it all brief and to not make the presentation in itself boring. When it came to actually researching the different type of meme formats, it was actually enjoyable as it was the one of the more interesting parts of the project and I chose my favorite meme formats to talk about:

Overall, as a solo project in itself, I think I did pretty well in exploring meme culture and overall the powerpoint structure looks pretty good.

Until the next time!

GIF Process

What's up, we are in the final week of our assignment deadline and I just want to update the blog on what we have done so far on this assignment.

Firstly, Eddie, Denis and me met up after college to shoot some photos and videos for our process of making the GIF's. We had in mind the 3 types of GIF's we wanted to use but we had to experiment on the places we wanted to photo shoot for the GIF's. For the meme GIF, we chose a rooftop with Denis as the centre of attention where he would jump off a mini ledge with a caption of 'FML':

For the second GIF, we used Eddie as the centre of attention and our goal was to take a bunch of photos rotating him and turning them into a GIF:

For the last GIF, we wanted to do a cinematic GIF involving rain, but unfortunately on the day it was slightly cloudy so we improvised. We used a train as the centre of focus for the cinematic GIF:

On my part, my role was to do the research on the GIF on the history of it, and why it is popular today. My goal for this presentation was to not focus heavily on the history and to keep it brief to avoid it being boring.:

Also, considering a lot of people were also working on the GIF, I thought that the whole thing was saturated so I wanted to focus more on the facts that not a lot of people knew and the process of making the GIF. Finding the information was easy enough but I also used a bit of personal knowledge of social media to construct my presentation. What I did encounter a bit of difficulty in was my lack of knowledge of social media sites I have never used so I decided to skip the ones I lacked info on and just stuck to the three core ones; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram:

One of the most interesting facts I've learned is that clouds we seen in 'Super Mario' was a GIF in itself! I also learned how far back in time the GIF format existed which is also very fascinating and the evolution of it over the years showed me how such a simple thing could be used to express emotions on social media.  I also talked about the many different ways that GIF's are used on different social media platforms so that was also interesting.

That's all for now, until the next post.

Introduction to the future Bill Gates

Hello, my name is Justin Urbonas and I'm from Lithuania. I'm 18 and i finished my Leaving Cert last June. I became interested in Creative Digital Media since I was in 5th year and I more or less tried to hurry up the Leaving Cert process just to get out of secondary school.

When it comes to my hobbies, I'm all about computers and playing the good old fashioned video games. I love learning about PC hardware and sometimes even building pc's as it always satisfies me when you've spent all the time building it and then you press the power button and see it turn on(hopefully).

When it comes to gaming, I can be a fairly competitive person. I love challenging other players to improve myself and get better at whatever I'm playing. I dabble in a lot of games such as League of Legends, Rainbow 6 Siege, Counter Strike and many others. But at the same time, i do love messing around with friends in games as playing competitively for too long is not healthy for me mentally and some things potentially get broken if things get heated.

I also really enjoy my music. Kanye West is my favourite artist as his music stands out from others. I love the creativity he puts into his music and it is also quite humorous to listen to as he likes to add funny lyrics to his music. He's also my favourite artist due to how inspirational he is to me. He mentioned before in an interview "If you're a fan of my music, you're not a fan of me. You're a fan of yourself" and he also said that he makes music to inspire people which really sticks with me.

Lastly, I do enjoy my anime. It has been something that I grew up with and something that has still stuck with me all this time and it's something I will stick with for a long time. My favourite anime is "Parasyte" as it is what got me into anime. It's about alien parasites that burrow into humans, eat their head's and control their bodies but a high school student prevented a parasite from burrowing into his brain and instead it ate is arm and became one with him. I know, weird stuff. But it's really interesting if you started watching it. Anime is also a reason I dream on visiting Japan and going sight seeing and enjoying Japanese food. I would also, if I have a chance, want to live in Japan in the future.

So yeah, that's pretty much the main things about me.
